I have been a teacher for eighteen years and have taught in several local schools. For many years now, I have tutored privately concentrating on grammar school preparation and Key Stage 2 (Years 4-6) Maths and English.
Over this time, I have been delighted to see children flourish as their confidence grows. It is always a pleasure to share in their success and many students stay in contact, in future years, to let me know how they are getting on - some are now at university.
I am proud to say, I achieve great results every year both in terms of those sitting the grammar test and those who are aiming to improve their levels at school. It is always wonderful to hear from students and parents about achievements, such as awards for effort and attainment, due to their enhanced confidence.
Resulting from my tutoring, I found there was a gap in the market for a verbal reasoning book offering multiple questions on topics causing difficulty and in need of extra work. I therefore devoted the time to write one which has been published and is available on Amazon.
My teaching is tailored to the individual. I do not teach groups as I do not feel this is the best way to cater for a child's specific needs. Some are intimidated by groups and do not ask the questions they need answering, others are easily distracted and therefore do not fulfil their potential.
I also do not present my students with test papers from the first lesson. I strongly believe they need to be taught the skills required, enhancing their general education, encouraged and prepared for success, rather than given a paper they are unable to tackle, at that time. I only start test papers when I feel the child is ready to do so thus boosting their confidence rather than undermining it.

Over the time I have been tutoring, I have frequently been asked by parents and students if there is a book they can purchase which has multiple questions on topics which are causing difficulty and need to be practised. Sadly, to date, I have been unable to find one. So I decided to publish my own!
